iPhone 5 release date, and LTE rumors continue
Date Posted: August 22nd, 2011More reports support October release date for the iPhone 5. Plus, new report about the iPhone with LTE surfaces.
Summary: MacRumors has uncovered a new.plist files, and according to the site, the code is hidden inside the last couple of developer builds of iOS 5. iPhone 5 with LTE? Or just a preparation for the iPad 3 with LTE?
While more and more news agencies and Apple blogs support the iPhone 5 October release date rumor, a new report was posted today, adding credence to the report posted by BGR last week about Apple “playing” with the Long Term Evolution, the new technology being used by Verizon Wireless, and soon AT&T, that is theoretically faster than 3G with an actual download rate of at least 5 to 15 Mbps.
According to Mac Rumors, file called “plist,” or property list file mentioning LTE or Long Term Evolution were found in the last developer builds of iOS 5. The site added that the Plist with LTE file was found only in GSM iPhone 4 and CDMA iPad 2 iOS 5 builds, and it was related to Apple’s internal “Fieldtest” application that BGR heralded last week.
Some Apple bloggers suggest that it is now “impossible” for the iPhone 5 to include Long Term Evolution, knowing that Apple’s carrier partner AT&T is still not ready to carry out the technology, while Verizon Wireless and its Long Term Evolution already covered more than half of the United States. Some adds that iPhone 6 could be the first iPhone to include LTE.
It is worth noting that iPhone 5′s rivals, especially from Verizon’s 4G lineup are already enjoying the faster internet connection on smartphone. The carrier is also expected to release a new Android smartphone with LTE next month, the first dual-core LTE phone from Google’s future property, Motorola Droid Bionic.
Aside from the iPhone 5, rumors are also claiming that Apple will sell a new iPad later this year, with some saying next year. The iPad 3 is rumored to include retina display, and could sport LTE especially if Apple will release the device next year.
