When confronted, he turned the gun on himself and killed himself.

A man and his wife drove to a trucking business in the city, where the man shot dead two men and his wife.

He then shot both of them before turning the gun on someone who rushed to the scene, police said.

The sheriff says the gunman likely forced his wife to go to a trucking company where he shot a man, his wife and then pursued another man who fled and finally killed him.

Mark King, a Lieutenant for the Kern County Sheriff's Office, says there is a "strong indication" that domestic violence could be the cause of the shooting.

The husband then hijacked a vehicle with a woman and child inside on Fillmore Avenue in Bakersfield. Authorities have yet to release the names of the gunman and the victims.

"Six people lost their lives in a short period of time", Youngblood said. He told the woman something to the effect of "he wasn't a bad person", Youngblood said.

Sheriff's deputies say six people are dead, including a gunman, after a string of shootings in Southeast Bakersfield. There is no information yet if the other four were related to the attacker.

Casarez then drove into the parking lot of a friend's business, where a sheriff's deputy confronted him and he shot himself to death, Youngblood said.

"Obviously, these are not random shootings", the sheriff said.

A witness told the Los Angeles Times that the gunman worked at the company and suspected that De Cazarez had been involved with one of his coworkers.

At that point, Casarez takes his gun and shoots himself in the stomach, crumpling to the ground after he pulls the trigger.

Casarez fired at Valadez as he ran away, but then tracked him down in his vehicle and killed him, the sheriff said.

Youngblood said the shooting spree began about 5:20 p.m., when the unidentified suspect and his wife arrived together at a trucking business in an industrial complex in east Bakersfield.

Casarez is heard saying something to the deputy, though it is unclear what it was he said.
