OnePlus 6T to get in-screen fingerprint sensor

OnePlus Confirms That the OnePlus 6T Will Sport an In-Display Fingerprint Reader

The new OnePlus 6T will come with an in-display finger print sensor, which the company will call "Screen Lock". This update comes as CNET reported being contacted by OnePlus, who have confirmed that the Chinese smartphone maker is working on a fingerprint scanner under the display, that will be activated by the "Screen Unlock' feature".

In an email to CNET, OnePlus said: "We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action".

Would a OnePlus 6T with in-display fingerprint sensor entice you to buy?

OnePlus has posted a teaser of a new feature that could appear on the OnePlus 6T.

Apart from in-display fingerprint sensor technology, the OnePlus 6T is also expected to feature a new format screen with a tiny notch on top. We don't yet know what will be the goal of the third camera: it could be a telephoto lens, a super wide-angle lens or a dedicated black-and-white shooter (our bet is on a tele lens).

The sister company of OnePlus, Vivo was the first smartphone brand to launch a commercially viable in-display fingerprint sensor in a smartphone. Evidently, OnePlus has been accused of taking design inspirations from Oppo phones in the past as well. The Face Unlocking display option will still be there, and users can choose from what are are convenient with.

Despite being known as "in-screen fingerprint readers" the technology is actually embedded underneath displays. The presence of fingerprint on display means that there are some slight design changes from the original OnePlus 6, as the 6T will have to be slightly thicker - 0.45mm thicker, to be exact. According to previous reports, this premium handset is expected to feature a $550 price and it will reportedly be revealed in October, which is going to be just in time for the holiday shopping season.
