Thai cave boys re-enact rescue in shopping centre

Elon Musk Renews Attacks on British Diver, Calls Him a ‘Child Rapist’

SpaceX and Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk renewed his attack on British cave diver Vernon Unsworth, who was instrumental in saving the lives of 12 schoolboys and their football coach marooned in a cave in Thailand for over 10 days in July.

Musk had previously apologized for calling the diver Vernon Unsworth a "pedo guy".

Unsworth has threatened to sue Musk, who struck a defiant tone in the correspondence, saying "as for this alleged threat of a lawsuit, which magically appeared when I raised the issue (nothing was sent or raised beforehand), I [expletive] hope he sues me".

"I suggest that you call people you know in Thailand, find out what's actually going on and stop defending child rapists, you f**king asshole", the billionaire reportedly wrote.

Now, in an email to Buzzfeed reporter Ryan Mac, Mr Musk has gone even further with his unsubstantiated claims and baseless allegations. Tesla's shares were, as of close on September 5, 2018, trading more than 28% lower than they were on August 7th, before Musk's tweet. In the latest emails, Musk said "I fucking hope he sues me".

Musk first attacked Unsworth back in July after the 63-year-old foreign rescuer questioned the value of his contribution to the Tham Luang cave complex rescue mission - a small submarine that went unused - claiming it was nothing but a "PR stunt". "Chiang Rai is renowned for child sex trafficking".

That period ended after the New York Times published an interview in which Musk, who owns about one-fifth of Tesla, described severe stress he faced running the Palo Alto, California-based company.

Musk's obsession with 63-year-old Vernon Unsworth began in July after the last member of the soccer team had finally been plucked from the cave, ending a almost three-week ordeal that captivated the world.

Musk had volunteered to design a mini-submarine to extract the team, but it ultimately was not used.

Mr Unsworth's girlfriend, Woranan Ratrawiphukkun, 40, yesterday said she was "no child bride".

The controversy comes at a time when Tesla and Musk continue to battle intense negative publicity and embarrassing controversies.

The electric vehicle maker's shares soared 11 percent that day to $379.57 - much to the consternation of short-sellers who were first to cover after betting that price would fall.

Tesla shares fell 0.5% after-hours Tuesday, after closing down more than 4%.

In Bangkok, deputy government spokesman Weerachon Sukhondhapatipak, who has been organizing numerous events with the boys, responded with concern to Musk's comments highlighting Thailand as a destination for sex tourists.
