John Millman Beats Roger Federer, Talks About More Pressing Issue

John Millman 'After win over Roger Federer I can beat Novak Djokovic too'

A $1.02 bet on Roger Federer. He volleyed poorly. Closed out sets poorly, too.

Djokovic improved his flawless record in U.S. Open fourth round contests to 11-0, leaving it to Federer, who plays Australian John Millman in the late contest on the Arthur Ashe Stadium court, to give the fans a mouthwatering match-up.

Maybe the 75 percent humidity played a role. It was just one of those nights where I guess I felt I couldn't get air. There was no circulation at all. For some reason, I struggled in the conditions tonight.

The 13-time grand slam champion hit straight back and went on to take the set but was clearly not enjoying himself in the heat, although his struggles were not as severe as during his first-round clash with Marton Fucsovics.

"How good is John Millman?".

He reached the quarterfinals for an 11th consecutive time in NY as he bids for a third US Open championship and 14th Grand Slam trophy.

After winning his 17th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2012, he went without a win at the majors for nearly five years until beating old rival Rafael Nadal in the 2017 Australian Open final.

"In all honesty, Roger's a hero of mine. I know that now".

"I think he was playing good, too", Nishikori said.

Millman will now play Serbia's Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

Sousa, who got past 12th-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta and No. 17 Luca Pouille to become the first Portuguese man to reach a Grand Slam last 16, was "not happy" at Djokovic's first lengthy absence from the court, although he acknowledged there was no rule limiting time of a comfort break. He had made no secret of his desire to end a 10-year wait for a title at Flushing Meadows and he's fallen horribly short.

"I'll obviously remember this for a long, long time", the 29-year-old Brisbane native said. But at the same time, there is a little biological clock that is not really working in your favor. "Sometimes, you just have to survive".

Madison Keys plays Carla Suarez Navarro, while Naomi Osaka faces Lesia Tsurenko in the women's quarter-finals.

Tennis is back on Sky Sports screens with the Laver Cup in September while we will also have coverage of the ATP Finals in November with every match live on Sky Sports.

Federer also said the roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium contributed to his problems, because even when open the space above the arena is reduced.

Still, this was a stunner.

After Monday's play, Millman has returned 81 percent of his opponents' serve at this year's US Open.

Millman got off to a slow start while Federer was at his blistering best in the opening set. Millman raised his level considerably from there, chasing down shot after shot and ripping away successfully on big points, and not just with his stronger two-handed backhand.

Roger Federer said the NY heat was a major factor in his shock defeat to world number 55 John Millman at the US Open on Monday.

"At the earlier stages of my professional career, I've lost to Roger more than I have won in terms of those big matches". But then he gave the break right back, leading to a tiebreak in which Millman won six of the first seven points en route to the most stunning upset of the year.

And then there was his serve. Federer finished with 77 unforced errors including 10 double faults and managed to hit just 49% of his first serves in.
