Starring Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson, Captain Marvel marks the first time that an MCU film will star a female character in the lead role.

Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Warning: This post contains potential spoilers for Captain Marvel!

They'll join Carol Danvers, the military pilot who wages a crucial battle within - between her human and superpowered Kree traits.

The movie is expected to reveal how Fury and Captain Marvel meet. "And she's got a formidable enemy in the form of [shape-shifting] Skrulls".

"Maria's got a strength that's undeniable, in that you don't feel like you need to help her", Lashana Lynch, who plays the character, told EW.

Captain Marvel also stars Jude Law, Samuel L Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn.

We already knew that Jackson was going to be digitally de-aged for Captain Marvel to appear as a younger Nick Fury who doesn't yet have his famous eye patch - the film is set in the 1990s, when he's far from any high-ranking position in S.H.I.E.L.D. - and we now know how he will look (at the bottom). "She is thrown into many a situation in this movie that she's never been a part of, never seen, never experienced - and she just learns it, immediately". This will be the first time a superheroine will lead a Marvel film. She's amusing, but doesn't always tell good jokes. In addition, Lee Pace will be reprising his role as Ronan from Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Marvel Studios' first female title character arrived with this years Ant-Man and the Wasp, while March 8, 2019's Captain Marvel will be the MCU's first solo female headliner.

An earlier photo of Larson in costume from the Captain Marvel set was released a few months ago featured only the green, black and silver costume.
