Jose Mourinho 'not confident' of deadline day signings

Mourinho guided Manchester United to their best Premier League finish since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, but the 55-year-old coach has insisted that he wants to sign two more players before the end of the transfer window.

Jose Mourinho feels his team braved hard circumstances to get a fine start to Manchester United's 2018-19 Premier League season on Friday.

"I'm not confident, I'm not confident and the market closes today so is time at least for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed".

"I will focus on the players that are available, so I am not even thinking about that list of injured players I gave you, (Nemanja) Matic, (Antonio) Valencia and so on".

Pushed on whether there would be any ins or outs on Thursday, Mourinho added: "The information I have is no (nothing will happen)". As it stands, Alderweireld and Maguire are considered too expensive, while Bayern Munich have knocked back a loan move for Boateng.

"They returned on Monday", he said.

"[Alexis is] more than ready but you can not have the players who arrived only last Monday after the World Cup semi-finals or final and three weeks' holiday".

"Because it is very important how they feel and to understand how they think they can help or not help".

The Portuguese believes runners-up are often portrayed as if they have been relegated and those who finish below them are presented as "serial winners".

The Red Devils coach has cut a sullen figure throughout pre-season with the former Chelsea boss unable to hide his dissatisfaction with Brazil global midfielder Fred being his sides only high profile signing.

'My view is that first of all is hard for me to believe we finished second when I listen, when I read, not much but sometimes I do, is hard to believe that we finished second because you are capable of making people that finish second look like they were relegated, ' Mourinho said during today's press conference. It is hard for me to understand we finish second.
