DOOM Eternal’s brutal gameplay revealed at QuakeCon 2018

Reminder: Doom Eternal Gameplay Footage to be Revealed Today at QuakeCon

Well, at the QuakeCon 2018 Keynote, Bethesda and id Software properly unleashed hell, showing off a gore-soaked 15 minutes of Doom Eternal footage. "Killing badass demons with big guns in unbelievable places", was the big lead in for the trailer. Martin and Stratton shared some concept illustrations showcasing the Doomslayer's new armor.

The two talked about Mirkmire, a new and expansive area that will be added to the title, which will be available sometime later this Fall.

In Doom Eternal, the Super Shotgun can be augmented with an underslung "Meat Hook", an attachment that the Slayer can use to latch onto enemies and pull himself toward them.

There will be twice as many enemies in DOOM Eternal, compared to the last DOOM. The Archenemy is like a freakish, demonic skeleton centaur with a tank for legs, while the Marauder carries a giant red ax and somewhat resembles the Doomslayer.

"There's a story behind that", they said. According to the team over at Xbox, "After a cataclysmic event almost destroys the planet, you'll emerge from cryosleep to a world long lost to law and order, to one that welcomes chaos and despair in id Software's Rage". People playing as demons will even be able to team up to take down the DOOM Slayer, which is a pretty interesting twist on what has traditionally been a single player franchise.

One feature that the game will offer, though unsure if it will happen in the Switch version yet, is that you can invade the game of other DOOM Eternal players, but they can also invade yours. If ID Software could make that happen again, Doom Eternal might end up the best Doom yet.

There's no firm release date for Doom Eternal yet, but Bethesda says it'll be available on pretty much every major platform: PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
