Sam Allardyce: Manchester United's negotiations have broken down

Jose Mourinho will want to make more signings today

Matteo Darmian may yet be sold with great interest in him from the leading clubs in Italy although none of them have got close yet to United's asking price.

Mourinho's comments seem a stark contrast to those which he reverberated during his side's pre-season tour of America - where he seemingly ruled out any chance of the younger members of his squad breaking into the first team during the upcoming campaign, insisted Anthony Martial should have spent less time with his newborn child and slammed fans for paying money to watch Manchester United play overseas.

"Sir Alex has already set a winning formula throughout his time at the club, and for some reason, we brought in managers who were trying to change that".

The Portuguese went some way to countering suggestions he is unhappy with his squad at his pre-match press conference.

Scholes said the club has undoubtedly brought in talented managers, but they still lack the edge when it matters the most.

The English transfer window closed on Thursday but La Liga clubs can still sign players until the end of this month.

"I think what Jose Mourinho is saying is "that's what I need out here on this pitch in the first part of this season".

For all of their attacking and goalkeeping talents, however, most football fans can agree that United's defence needed reinforcing this summer.

However, there has been little other late movement from the top six clubs with Mourinho in particular frustrated at missing out on a host of targets to bolster his options in central defense.

The 2018/19 Premier League season kicks off this weekend but Jose Mourinho is not a happy man.

United have only won three trophies since, the Europa League, Fa Cup, League Cup. "I'd prefer to look to the bench and to have them rather than to have 16-year-old boys without experience and without the power to be Premier Leagues players directly", said Mourinho.

A 4-1 defeat followed at the hands of Premier League rivals Liverpool before a win against Champions League winners Real Madrid, followed by a second loss to Bayern Munich.
