Idris Elba is close to finally winning the role of James Bond

Idris Elba could he be the next James Bond

Idris Elba may be the next man to play James Bond, as revealed by famed director, Antoine Fuqua.

Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has reportedly announced that the door is open for a black 007 in the future, once Daniel Craig completes his final outing as the spy...

The discussion over who could play the next James Bond could be nearing it's conclusion, as the biggest clue yet has been dropped over the next actor's identity.

Fuqua added: "Idris could do it if he was in shape". You need a guy with physically strong presence.

However, Elba himself has long played down the idea.

Despite the entire WhatCulture office - and most of you, probably - demanding that I be cast as the next Bond, producers might actually be honing in on some else to play the role.

Eon Productions, maker of the James Bond films, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Former Sony honcho Amy Pascal backed Elba for the role in 2014 in a leaked email, but the British actor has always shied away from discussing the prospect, and even suggested that a woman should replace Daniel Craig this year.

In 2016, director Steven Spielberg told Express UK that he "would love to see a Bond of color", and that "Idris would be [his] first choice of Bond" to take over after Craig takes off his tux, sets down his briefcase, and hands in his various guns and gadgets.

He said to Vanity Fair: "It could be a woman - could be a black woman, could be a white woman". And after years of fan demand, it appears that Elba may finally have to start ordering his martini's shaken, not stirred.
