At least four dead in Canada shooting

At about 8.45am, police said that they had one suspect in custody. The circumstances of the events leading up to the shooting are unclear at this point.

Sarah Williams, who lives close to where the shootings occurred, said she awoke to loud sounds.

Scott Hill said he was taking his dog on a morning walk by the golf course when an employee told him to get inside because of the shooter. 'It was sort of like a pop, pop, pop, pop'.

After he had spotted a man in the back parking lot and called 9-1-1, MacCoubrey heard more gunfire and looked out a window again and saw two police officers on the ground.

Various nearby businesses, including employees at a local Tim Horton's, locked their doors and were not allowing patrons to enter their facility this morning.

One person is in custody, they said, and there was no further threat to the public.

More recently on July 22, a man opened fire in a bustling nightlife district of Toronto, killing an 18 year old woman and a 10 year old girl and wounding 13 other people.

Gun violence has been a hot topic among politicians and the Canadian public this summer, particularly after several high-profile shootings in the city of Toronto.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also tweeted about the tragedy: "Awful news coming out of Fredericton".
