The plane's cleaning crew found the dead fetus hours after American Airlines Flight 1942 passengers left the plane, according to Fox 46 Charlotte.

Police in NY are investigating after they said a fetus was found in the bathroom of a commercial airliner at LaGuardia Airport early Tuesday, according to WABC.

According to WNBC, cleaning crews made the grisly discovery early Tuesday morning during a routine cleaning.

The airline warned customers to expect possible delays as it reshuffled its jets to accomodate the investigation.

"As we continue to learn more about this tragic and sensitive situation, we are actively cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation".

Port Authority Police declined to comment when contacted by DailyMail.com on Tuesday morning.

After arriving in NY late Monday, the plane had been parked in a hangar overnight, and the fetus went undiscovered.

"Absolutely disturbing", said one person at LaGuardia.
