Count Police out of NASS siege, IGP tells Osinbajo

BREAKING: Osinbajo sacks DSS Boss, Lawal Daura

Yemi Osinbajo has terminated the appointment of the Department of State Security (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura.

He said the sack of the Director General of DSS, Lawal Musa Daura was not enough, insisting that he should be arrested and prosecuted.

The acting DG, an indigene of Bayelsa State, was director of operations between 2007 and 2010 when Afakriya Gadzama ran the agency.

Daura has since been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.

Mr Seiyefa arrived the presidential villa in an official SUV at about 4 p.m., clutching a file.

A senior aide to Senate President Bukola Saraki was among a number of people who tweeted pictures and video from outside the National Assembly building.

The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has condemned what he described as an unauthorized takeover of the national assembly complex by security operatives on Tuesday.

He said: "I can authoritatively tell you that those senators behind the desecration of the National Assembly collected $1m each to impeach the Senate President and his Deputy".

Later in the day, Buhari's office denied authorising the move, which comes amid a surge of tension between the president and his political rivals.

It is the first such incident since Nigeria became a democracy in 1999 and coincides with increased tension between the National Assembly and the executive ahead of an election in February 2019 when President Muhammadu Buhari will seek a second term.

He maintained that the "unlawful act which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency is condemnable and completely unacceptable".

The Tuesday siege was mainly carried out by the DSS and lasted from the early hours of Tuesday till afternoon.
