Trump admits son met with Russian to get information on Hilary

Trump blasts media at Pennsylvania rally

President Donald Trump admitted during an impassioned Twitter rant on Sunday that his son's controversial meeting with a Russian attorney during the 2016 campaign was, in fact, an attempt to get damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

It was Trump's most direct acknowledgement that the motive for the June 2016 meeting was to get dirt on Hillary Clinton, his Democratic rival for the presidency.

Reports on Saturday indicated Trump was getting concerned that his son, Donald Trump Jr, could become entangled in Mueller's investigation. Instead Veselnitskaya discussed sanctions placed on Russian Federation under the Magnitsky Act, which affected her clients.

Donald Trump Jr, along with his father, US President Donald Trump, and others in the administration have downplayed the importance of the meeting. However, he said only Mueller can determine whether the evidence rises to the level of criminal activity that is "beyond a reasonable doubt". "Your campaign accepted. And the Russians delivered", tweeted Rep. Adam Schiff, top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

These are all significant developments in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into whether the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government.

Previously, the Trumps pushed another explanation for the meeting, after having failed to disclosed it and denied anything of the sort had ever happened in the first place.

It is, however, against the law for USA campaigns to receive donations or items of value from foreigners, and that June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Natalia Veselnitskaya is now a subject of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's Russian Federation probe.

"Let's be honest with the American people, there are irregularities in this investigation, the likes of which we have not seen", Sekulow added later.

The admission is a significant departure from Trump's previous statements regarding the controversial meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer. One person allegedly in attendance, former Deputy Campaign Chairman Rick Gates, is now a cooperating witness in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation. Then, during the rolling political disaster that followed, Trump Jr.

Why is the Trump Tower meeting controversial?

"I had bad information at that time and made a mistake in my statement", Sekulow said on ABC's "This Week". Paul Manafort, who ran Trump's campaign at a crucial time leading into the Republican National Convention, is now on trial on charges concerning his previous business activities that grew out of Mueller's probe. They purposely cause great division & distrust.

In another, he expressed frustration with both the media and Mueller's probe. The events he is focusing on include the president's firing of FBI director James Comey and Trump's tweets, specifically the ones that have called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end the investigation. "They are very risky & sick!" he posted on Twitter. Her unannounced presence raised some eyebrows as Hicks has been interviewed by Mueller and was part of the team of staffers that helped draft the original statement on the Trump Tower meeting.
