Khabib vs McGregor set for October 6

Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov Announced For UFC 229

Conor McGregor will return to mixed martial arts on October 6 in Las Vegas for a title bout against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

White, who's experienced frustrating talks with Diaz and his brother, Nick, for more than a decade, said, "Stylistically, it's an incredible fight".

The fight, announced at UFC's 25th anniversary press conference, will take place at UFC 229 and BT Sport is the only place to watch the Irishman's comeback in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Why is this fight so big?

McGregor is unhappy at Nurmagomedov holding a title he believes is his and, having last fought in UFC in November 2016, "Notorious" is ready to return.

Our two-year patience, however, is about to be rewarded - because Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov really is a flawless fight.

How will McGregor fare against the Nurmagomedov?

News of the press conference emerged a little over 24 hours after McGregor hinted that a deal to see him take on the undefeated Nurmagomedov is close to coming to fruition.

Notably, there is a bit of bad blood between McGregor (21-3) and Nurmagomedov as the former had attacked a bus carrying The Eagle in Brooklyn earlier this year.

McGregor and Nurmagomedov have a checkered history that culminated at the UFC 223 media day in NY when the Irishman infamously attacked a bus carrying Nurmagomedov. Video footage showed McGregor hurling a hand truck at a bus on which Nurmagomedov was a passenger after a press conference at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

That led to charges for McGregor, who escaped a jail term and criminal record after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, paving the way for the bout against Nurmagomedov.

Should he be allowed to fight then?

The 30-year-old Irishman now has his sights set on winning the lightweight belt for a second time in just his second fight in the division in front of what will undoubtedly be a full crowd.
