TJ Dillashaw Knocks Out Cody Garbrandt at UFC 227

UFC 227: Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt 2 Post-Fight Press Conference

The last time TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt met in the octagon the bout lasted until the 2nd round before the champ closed the proceedings with a well earned stoppage.

Cejudo will make his second bid for the UFC flyweight title pegged as a +350 underdog on the UFC 227 odds after picking up wins in his past two outings, including a second-round TKO win over Wilson Reis last September at UFC Edmonton that earned him his first Performance of the Night bonus since joining the UFC in 2014. He floored Garbrandt with a clean right hook, swarmed for a potential and then reset. Dillashaw didn't give him the chance and landed another combination that sent Garbrandt staggering to the cage. Dillashaw countered Garbrandt's aggression, dropping his opponent with a thunderous strike of his own - but unlike "No Love", Dillashaw kept his head and employed a more measured approach in pursuit of the win. Dillashaw remained composed and landed more shots against the fence, including a huge knee that had Garbrandt out on his feet before the referee stepped in.

"I am the best bantamweight of all time", Dillashaw said to Rogan.

Dillashaw knocked Garbrandt out in the second round in November at Madison Square Garden, but Garbrandt insisted an injured back before the fight did not allow him to properly train. Two of the most exciting and powerful fighters the division has ever had to offer, we now get a round 2 in this rivalry.

"Wherever [UFC president] Dana White is, I felt disrespected this whole time", Cejudo said.

Cejudo, 31, a native of Los Angeles, took home the decision on judges' scores of 48-47 (twice), which was the same score the third judge had in favor of Johnson.

The upset loss brought an end to the historic six-year reign of Johnson (27-3-1), who set a UFC record with 11 defenses of his 125-pound title as Cejudo (13-2) becomes just the second flyweight champion in the promotion's history. Also, Dillashaw said he would welcome a challenge from Cejudo, so the superfight is a possibility as well. "And the victor of this next bout, I wanna fight that guy". With Dillashaw winning back-to-back fights in spectacular fashion, Garbrandt has a lot of work to do if he wants to receive another title shot. He added that Johnson "absolutely" deserves a rematch with Cejudo. For the champion, a rematch against former bantamweight king Dominick Cruz seems to be on the horizon.
