Taylor Swift cast in film adaptation of 'Cats'

Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden & Ian McKellen Line Up For ‘Cats’ Movie — Miaow

Taylor Swift has been cast in the upcoming movie version of Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic broadway musical.

It's no surprise, then, that Hollywood is bringing Cats to the big screen - and the first additions to the cast are a suitably starry bunch. It is the sixth longest-running show in West End history, and the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history.

Cameron, in addition to hosting The Late Late Show and all the musical sketches that entails, has a background in theater and costarred in the Into the Woods movie with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.

Hooper will be joined by the three producers who worked with him on his last film musical, 2012 box-office hit Les Miserables: Debra Hayward, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

Swift, a 10-time Grammy victor whose "Reputation" album was the biggest seller of 2017 in the United States, made her film acting debut in the 2010 romantic comedy "Valentine's Day".

Hudson - who won an Oscar in 2007 for her breakout role in Dreamgirls - is set to take on the prominent role of Grizabella, also known as "The Glamour Cat", and will be lending her powerhouse vocals of the musical's standard Memory. The movie version is a production of Working Title Films, which did not return requests for comment on the reports. Lee Hall ('Billy Elliott') is penning the script.

The play follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicles over the course of one night as they decide which of their group will ascend to the "Heaviside Layer" and come back to a new life.
