New Blackmagic Design eGPU gives big boost to the MacBook Pro

The 2018 update of the MacBook Pro line was long overdue, since the competitors in the PC space already updated their lineups with new CPUs months ago.

Apple's updated MacBook Pros haven't been released into the world all on their lonesome. The MacBook Pro 13 gets two extra cores with Intel's Kaby Lake-R generation, so the i5 and i7 CPU's now have four cores instead of two while still supporting Hyper-Threading. Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro feature True Tone display. It is hard to know what exactly will be delivered there but they will undoubtedly deliver improved performance/power efficiency as is always claimed between processor generations. As for storage, the 15-inch MacBook Pro comes with up to a 4TB SSD, while the 13-inch model comes with up to a 2TB SSD.

Prices start at £1,149 for the 13-inch model, £2,349 for the 15-inch, and you can order them today from the Apple website and select Apple stores. In addition, the Blackmagic eGPU supports Metal graphics technology from Apple, which provides near-direct access to the GPU for maximizing graphics and compute performance with games and applications.

As I've outlined before, the 2015 MacBook Pro offered a great keyboard with lots of cushy travel. Customers running DaVinci Resolve 15 can expect increased performance for editing with more real time effects, color corrections with more nodes and spectacular ResolveFX such as film grain, light rays, blurs and more.

Apple iterated on the key design in the 2017 Macbook Pros, and users reported less reliability problems with the keyboard. Arguably the most polarizing among these tweaks is the butterfly keyboard-the 2015 MacBook Pro predates that mechanism, making its traditional keyboard a preferred alternative for many users. The 15-inch model is now 70% faster, while the smaller 13-inch model is "twice as fast". This makes the reliability of the keyboard in the new devices a critical matter.

Here are the pictures Apple provided for the new laptops: Apple also launched new leather sleeves for MacBook Pro laptops.

He also called back to his three iPhones prediction, which suggested that Apple will show off an updated iPhone X with a 5.8in OLED display, a bigger 6.5in iPhone X Plus, and a 6.1in LCD display-equipped mid-range take on the iPhone X.
