Livescore: Result of Russian Federation vs Croatia

Croatia's Ivan Rakitic celebrates with team mates after scoring the deciding penalty

England now know their semi-final opponents after Saturday evening's game between Russian Federation and Croatia went the way of Croatia on penalties.

Not many fans and analysts outside of Russian Federation gave the host country much of a chance against Croatia in Saturday's quarterfinal match, but Russian Federation took a shocking lead with an electrifying goal from midfielder Denis Cheryshev.

"22 "Fiery Ones", One Heart, One Soul, One Croatia!" trumpeted the Sportske Novosti paper, featuring photos of the players.

The match began when Croatian fans started to re-enact their own version of Iceland's "Viking thunder-clap" - you know, the one where they all clap really slowly and chant in ideal unison. Gave his country the lead with a header in extra time.

"Holding the ball up, tirelessly stretching defenses into submission and making intelligent runs either onto throughballs or to open up space for Croatia's craftsmen are all caveats to Mandzukic's game".

Croatia then went ahead with a soft header in the eleventh minute of extra time but Brazilian-born Fernandes headed the hosts level with five minutes of play remaining to send the game to penalties.

Forbes even wrote 5 things to know before the encounter, giving Croatia the advantage. "Of course, I am rooting for Croatia and want Team Croatia to advance". Other than Perišić (29) though, the trio are all the wrong side of 30 and may not see another World Cup.

They will now play England after the Three Lions won against Sweden earlier this afternoon. Croatia shouldn't be scared of either and will see this as a great chance to better 1998.

Croatia thought they had won it when Domagoj Vida struck from a corner in the 100th minute only for Fernandes to force penalties with a dramatic headed equaliser.

Fernandes was on target in the 115th minute to bring the scoreline back to 2-2, and incredible footage has since emerged of his family and friends gathered around a big screen to see the scenes unfold.
