Miles Teller to play Goose's son in 'Top Gun' sequel

Variety's Justin Kroll is reporting that Miles Teller has been cast in Top Gun: Maverick opposite Tom Cruise as the son of Maverick's deceased best friend Goose.

Nothing further to report at this time, but there'll surely be plenty more to discuss between now and Top Gun: Maverick's arrival in theaters on July 12th of next year. In the first flick, Goose was played by Anthony Edwards, and was Maverick (Cruise)'s co-pilot.

However, it was revealed on Tuesday that Teller had won the role after all three finalists had reportedly screen tested with Cruise. Val Kilmer will also reprise his role from the 1986 film, despite health issues that led to the actor being heavily dubbed for The Snowman. Although the title Top Gun: Maverick floated around briefly, the film is now without an official title.

"Yeahhh, in no world would Meg Ryan and Anthony Edwards produce Miles Teller", one fan wrote.

"Day 1", he captioned the snap.

"We can do nothing to stop this".

Other frontrunners included Nicholas Hoult and Glen Powell but Teller has landed the gig. "What the actual nope". So maybe Goose a drone operator, one of the aforementioned "fifth generation fighters", or doesn't actually have anything to do with aviation. Miles is coming off a busy 2017 with two strong dramatic plays in "Thank You For Your Service" and "Only The Brave". Teller just finished shooting the Amazon series Too Old to Die Young with Drive helmer Nic Refn directing.
