Lyon end negotiations with Liverpool over Nabil Fekir transfer

Lyon issued a statement on Saturday claiming that there would be no deal and that Fekir would remain at the Ligue 1 club for next season.

When the deal was not made official on Friday, doubts were cast over the player's fitness as he had suffered a serious injury to his right knee previously.

Lyon announce that they have ended negotiations with Liverpool over Nabil Fekir. "I spent 15 minutes with him this morning [Saturday], and he's anxious by the France team".

Although Lyon's dismissal may well be the result of some hard-bargaining from the French club, some figures are under the impression that Fekir's move to the Premier League is not dead yet.

He also went on to reveal that Nabil Fekir had passed a medical at "Fernand Sastre National Technical Centre", which is commonly referred to as Clairefontaine.

Klopp saw the gifted 24-year-old slotting into the role vacated by Philippe Coutinho - who joined Barcelona in January - and adding to the threat of Liverpool's "Big Three" of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. That's logical, we've done it for other players.

But Lyon released a statement on Saturday evening saying that they were looking forward to having the attacking midfielder with them for the upcoming campaign.

Fekir enjoyed a career-best season with Lyon in Ligue 1, scoring 18 times in 30 games and supplying a further eight assists.

Liverpool, who were Champions League finalists last season, signed Fabinho from Monaco last month but were unable to follow the £43.7m transfer up with a deal for Nabil Fekir.

Fekir is shifting his focus away from his future, and has now flown out to Russian Federation with the France squad.

The France worldwide looked all set to complete his eagerly-anticipated switch to Merseyside over the weekend before the Ligue 1 outfit pulled the plug on Saturday evening.
