West Ham's Manuel Lanzini out of Argentina squad

In simpler terms, Lanzini ruptured his ACL and will likely require surgery.

West Ham have been linked with a number of midfielders in the transfer market, including Manchester City veteran Yaya Toure, and Lanzini's injury could intensify the pursuit for signings in this area.

His injury has been confirmed by the Argentine national team's official Twitter account.

Sampaoli and his technical crew will now quickly decide the player who will replace Lanzini in the coming days. His injury is a blow for Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli who had counted on Lanzini for his starting line up. He can score goals and play a role Lanzini is accustomed to playing by providing for Messi and Higuain.

Sampaoli has until 15:00 CEST on June 15, 24 hours before Argentina's opening game against Iceland in Moscow, to call up a replacement for the West Ham favourite.

Lanzini will be in recovery for several months and is a serious doubt for the start of West Ham's 2018/19 campaign in the Premier League. The thrilling playmaker is a fan favourite amongst Hammers supporters, and this most recent season has completed 27 appearances with a return of five goals and seven assists.
