Sounds Like Val Kilmer's Returning For The TOP GUN Sequel, After All

Of course, Val Kilmer famously played the role in Tony Scott's beloved blockbuster and he's returning to play one of the most iconic "frenemies" in film history.

Top Gun 2, which likely will have the title of Top Gun: Maverick, is officially happening over at Paramount. Per The Wrap, Val Kilmer is reprising his role as Iceman in the upcoming sequel, which is called Top Gun: Maverick. Still no word yet on whether original stars Kelly McGillis, Tom Skerritt, Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, or Michael Ironside will be included in the cast. In 2015 Kilmer announced that he'd been offered the film, which he accepted without reading the script.

Kilmer has been vying for the Top Gun: Maverick role since it was announced previous year. I jumped the topgun... The long in development sequel is said to have a plot revolving around drone technology as it explores the end of an era for dogfighting and fighter pilots.

In Top Gun: Maverick, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is back in action as an instructor at the Top Gun training base.

Tom Cruise has shared an image from the first day of Top Gun Two shooting.

The Paramount movie, which hits theaters next summer on July 12, 2019 and is now in production in San Diego, follows fighter pilots who are entangled in a drone-driven airspace which has made their flying obsolete.

The film is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer for Jerry Bruckheimer Films and David Ellison for Skydance, and is expected to release in July next year.
