Liverpool linked with Stoke City winger Shaqiri, £13.5 million fee possible

Former Switzerland worldwide and Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz has urged countryman Xherdan Shaqiri to move to Anfield.

Donaldson said of Shaqiri: "Liverpool fans on message boards are saying "great player, great skill but Jurgen Klopp's whole ethos is about working hard and running".

Tottenham have been dealt a transfer blow as the Mirror claim Liverpool have joined the chase to sign Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri in a bargain £12m deal this summer.

Shaqiri scored eight goals and made seven assists in 36 appearances in the Premier League last season as the Swiss playmaker was unable to help Stoke avoid relegation to the Championship.

A separate source, however, told ESPN FC that Liverpool were yet to approach Stoke with an offer for the 26-year-old.

Should Klopp meet the release clause in his contract Stoke would be powerless to prevent him leaving and Shaqiri may finally get the chance to pull on a Liverpool shirt.

Shaqiri would be an excellent addition to the Leicester squad, whether Mahrez stays or leaves, and for just £12.5 million, there is not much better value to be had out there in the transfer market this summer.

"For Shaqiri, it would be the ideal move, to move to Liverpool".

The Anfield club are close to securing a deal worth around £53m for Lyon play-maker Nabil Fekir having already recruited Fabinho from Monaco for £43m last month.

Shaqiri's future, though, may not be sorted out imminently as he is heading to the World Cup in Russian Federation next week.
