Kate Spade was seeing doctors and taking medicine for her disease, Andy Spade said in a statement released Wednesday. Our daughter was our priority. She was honored twice by the Council of Fashion Designers of America throughout a career marked by cheerful colors and peppy patterns.

Spade, 55, was found hanged by a scarf in her Park Avenue apartment late Tuesday morning.

Early reports of Kate's death mentioned a possible note the designer left behind for her daughter - something that, if it exists, should absolutely have been kept confidential by everyone who arrived at the scene.

Andy Spade also said the couple was not legally separated and never discussed divorce.

Coach, now known as Tapestry, bought the Kate Spade brand previous year for $2.4 billion.

Kate and Andy were married in 1994, a year after they founded the Kate Spade New York line of handbags designed by Kate. "The Medical Examiner has made a determination regarding the death of Katherine Brosnahan, aka Kate Spade in Manhattan on June 5, 2018", Aja Worthy-Davis of the New York Medical Examiner's office said in a statement to Radar.

In Spade's suicide note to her daughter, she suggested that Andrew would know why she took her life. "At the time, bags were too complicated, and I really loved very simple kind of architectural shapes", Spade said past year on the NPR show "How I Built This with Guy Raz".

He also said his daughter would be glad if ongoing, global talk about her death were to have a positive impact. Their daughter Bea was living with both of them and they saw each other or spoke every day. We loved creating our businesses together.

"Kate designed with great charm and humor, and built a global empire that reflected exactly who she was and how she lived".

The ruling comes two days after the 55-year-old iconic fashion designer was found dead in her New York City apartment.

He stressed that Kate had not been abusing any substances or alcohol, nor had there been any business problems. "Kate loved Bea so very much".

"I was Kate Brosnahan, and I kept coming up with these names, and Andy kept saying 'Kate Spade" because we were 50-50 partners", she told NPR.
