The advance booking for the film had received a great response from the audiences.

Fear of vandalism trumped a Karnataka high court order and a fervent appeal from the "super star" himself, as the Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala was screened only in some theaters in the city and pockets of the state on Thursday. They are shutting by themselves and are not screening Kaala.

Well, all the fans of the Superstar and the genuine movie lovers have been shocked by the reports. Armed with the recent High Court order directing the government "to take adequate steps to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the screening of the film", Karnataka's film distributors have chose to go ahead with the release. However, after 11 am it is likely that the film will begin. "The promos of Kaala haven't established a connect with Hindi audiences".

Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, who has worked repeatedly with Rajini on "Ra.One", "Robot" etc, has also been quoted saying that Rajini's politics could be a negative force in his career.

"I have not been following 'Kaala' release or its prospects, but I would imagine, the socio-political stand Rajini sir has taken in the past one year people might have started looking at him differently from the demi-god that he used to be", he said. As the film premieres worldwide, fans took to their Twitter handle to give their initial review for the film.

The latest Rajinikanth movie has fared poorly in Karnataka, where it was not shown by many theatres after local political groups protested the actor's comments in favour of Tamil Nadu in the dispute between the two states on sharing Cauvery water.

Pro-Kannada organisations continued to protest against the handful of multiplex that did decide to screen the movie. Besides the original Tamil version, the film has been released across the country and beyond with sub-titles in Hindi, Telugu and English.
