IOS 12 introduces new features to reduce interruptions and manage Screen Time

Parental controls are coming to iOS. Here's what you can do with them

Apple also will give users reports on how much time they spend on apps and what gets them to check them constantly. The app uses a series of notifications to let kids know when their time is about to expire.

The phone's screen can also be set to dim automatically just before bedtime.

Introducing substantial improvements to Siri could help Apple get back into the voice assistant game, where it's fallen well behind its rivals. Apple's SVP of software engineering Craig Federighi demonstrated the feature by saying, "I lost my keys" and the app triggered the Tile device connected to the keys, in order to find them.

Apple's Safari browser will have "intelligent tracking prevention" to help block social media "like" or "share" buttons and comment widgets from tracking users' keystrokes without explicit permission.

Apple plans to instead send out generic data to such collectors, making a user's device look just like any other Apple device.

"It will become dramatically more hard for data companies to identify your device and track you", Federighi said. The company may launch a wireless charging pad called the AirPower that it announced previous year.

Apple rolled out new support for augmented reality applications as it unveiled a new format for digital objects that appear to live in the real world.

New MacOS Mojave and iOS 12 software to be released later this year will also make it harder to use trackers to create "unique fingerprints" by gleaning data about devices being used, according to Federighi. This takes an important step toward changing that, although the default directions app is still, *shudder*, Apple Maps.

Apple went ahead to show off a new AR tool called Measure that turns your phone into an $800 (GH₵3,760) ruler.

Although Apple was one of the first tech firms to offer a smart assistant, Siri is widely seen to have fallen behind its rivals in recent years.

Before, Apple had limited third-party access to a handful of categories, such as messaging, while excluding competitors in favour of Apple's Music service, for instance. Users can now record and assign your own phrases as Shortcuts and once Siri hears those phrases repeated.

The photos app will become more dynamic, offering search suggestions such as "hiking" and categorising events by place and time, with a separate "For You" tab offering suggestions for edits or people you may want to share images.

The decision to inform users of their (potentially) excessive gadget use comes after Apple faced a high amount of criticism from shareholders on the addictive quality of the company's devices. Meanwhile, the company is also enabling group video conferencing with up to 32 people through FaceTime.
