US First Lady Undergoes Kidney Surgery at Military Hospital

U.S. first lady Melania Trump walks down the White House colonnade as she arrives for the launch of her

We may not know the extent of Melania's ailment, but we do wish her a speedy recovery! President Donald Trump took a helicopter to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to visit her and tweeted that his wife was in "good spirits".

Friends close to the Trump family also learned of Melania's surgery through the news; many were surprised the president was not present during surgery.

"The full lesion may not have been completely embolized and sometimes you need it done again", Brahmbhatt said.

"You can get pretty sick after an embolization because there's a lot of inflammation that can go on you can get a fever and you want to make sure there are no complications like abnormal bleeding or infection", he said, though he emphasized that it is normally a very safe procedure.

Trump flew by helicopter from the White House to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, early Monday evening.

Another time when a president was not at the hospital while the first lady was undergoing surgery was when Laura Bush was having a procedure to help her with pinched nerves in her neck in 2007.

"The doctors at Walter Reed are expecting a full recovery".

The most likely reason for such a procedure is to treat a benign tumor known as an angiomyolipoma, according to Mohamad Allaf, vice chairman of the urology department at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Trump says in a tweet that he is heading to "see our great First Lady, Melania". "Thank you to all of the well-wishers!"

The White House says Melania Trump will probably be hospitalized for the rest of the week.

We soon discovered that Melania, 48, had surgery to treat a "benign" kidney condition, although, the surgical procedure she underwent is the first major surgery to be undertaken by a US First Lady since Nancy Raegan's mastectomy back in October 1987.

Meanwhile, the White House has not released further details about the exact condition Melania was treated for. Successful procedure, she is in good spirits.
