Marcus Morris reveals real reason for Joel Embiid bust-up

Embiid had a chance to tie it after Tatum made it 111-109 with 18.8 seconds left. The tipoff for the contest is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be televised on TNT.

Joel Embiid #21 of the Philadelphia 76ers reacts in front of Al Horford #42 of the Boston Celtics after making a three-point basket in the second quarter during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Second Round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs at Wells Fargo Center on May 7, 2018 in Philadelphia.

A pair of Terry Rozier free throws, and a Marcus Smart steal on a full-court pass in the final second after his free throw made it a two-point game, closed out the dramatic finisher. Game 1 is Sunday in Boston.

Embiid has needed to take an average of 21 shots to score his 22 points per game, and his defense hasn't quite been what it was in the regular season.

The Celtics have already taken three big bites out of the 76ers.

The Sixers ended up attempting only three three-pointers in the first quarter, making the one by McConnell.

Philadelphia, though, won't go down easy.

The 76ers edged out the Celtics by 18 points in McConnell's 39 minutes of playing time, giving the stouthearted point guard a team-best plus-38 plus-minus in this Eastern Conference Semifinals series.

They advanced to the conference semifinals for the first time since losing to the Celtics in seven games in 2012.

Game 1 is May 13 in Boston.

"They are an elite defensive team, in position", Brown said.

"I always hoped we would get to a point where if things don't go our way, we're still extremely competitive because we have a kind of foundation in place", he said. But the Celtics rallied again - an alley-oop from Tatum to Horford trimmed the lead to two, and Smart finished a put back, setting up his final stop. "There's not a coach in the world that wouldn't want everybody available", Stevens said.

So predictably, the news earlier Wednesday that he didn't receive a single vote for this season's National Basketball Coaches Association's trophy, which went to Toronto's Dwane Casey, didn't faze him either. "We got a lot of talented guys".

Houston's James Harden seems like the probable victor of the NBA's MVP award this season, with the only other realistic candidate for top honors probably LeBron James.

The 76ers went inside to Joel Embiid, who missed his initial shot and got the rebound stripped by Rozier with 10.8 seconds to play. The team will be without guard Shane Larkin who is dealing with a shoulder injury and is considered out of action for the "foreseeable future". That left the coach Brad Stevens with an eight-man rotation. Boston was 6-for-20 in the third, with six turnovers, watching a nine-point lead wither to one. That adjustment alone helped the Sixers stave off elimination and push things back to Boston for a Game 5.

Tatum is the second rookie this post-season to notch seven straight 20-plus point playoff games.
