Obama: Trump pulling United States out of Iran nuclear deal

Iran nuclear deal Trump

Raising the issue of Iran's nuclear programme was an excuse to curb the Islamic Republic's regional influence and missile programme, Mr Khamenei said.

"We stand today at a historic moment for Europe - Europe is in charge of guaranteeing the multilateral order that we created at the end of World War II and which today is sometimes being shaken", he added.

Patty Murray, D-Washington, who said the risk of war had "dramatically increased" following President Donald Trump's announcement Tuesday that the U.S.is withdrawing from the global agreement to rein in Iran's nuclear programs.

Parliament speaker Ali Larijani said responsibility for saving the deal fell on the European Union and other world powers still in the accord.

"We will respect the capacity of individual countries to make their decisions about foreign policy".

So technically the USA isn't "withdrawing" from the deal; United States actions simply put it in violation of an agreement that still exists between Iran and China, France, Germany, Russia and the UK.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in an address to the nation, said he would send his foreign minister to negotiate with countries remaining in the nuclear deal.

Supporters of Trump's rip-it-up strategy may not have meant to bring us closer to military confrontation, but the effect of proceeding in this fashion without a reasonable method of obtaining a better result than the JCPOA will most certainly move us toward either conflict or acquiescence to Iran's emergence as a nuclear power.

Referring to Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Khanna asked via Twitter: "Has Trump even read the #IranDeal?"

Not all Israeli military and intelligence officials share Netanyahu's negative view on the nuclear deal.

A video has already surfaced of Iranian politicians burning a paper U.S. flag in their parliament while chanting "Death to America" in the wake of Trump's announcement. Closer to home for the US, Boeing will be anxious about its $20b deals to sell airliners to Iran, supporting 100,000 US jobs. "We would prefer that the deal stick", he said.

"The fact is, this was a terrible, one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made", Trump said.

Rouhani, who established a track record for bridge-building in nuclear talks with European powers a decade earlier, promised change and in 2013 he secured the votes of pro-reform Iranians who had been politically muzzled for years. These nations have urged Iran to continue to meet its own obligations of the deal. They have done nothing to achieve a peaceful relationship with that country, and only led to a permanent state of distrust that can lead to war at any moment.

But it's a mistake to apply rational analysis to Trump's action, because this was an emotional decision, not a rational one.

European allies tried to sway Trump's decision in the days leading up to his announcement.

Nagel cautioned patience, however, saying that it will take time for a reimposition of the sanctions and for a translation of the policy Trump articulated Tuesday night into operative steps.

Nato, an EU-US trade deal, Nafta, the Trans-Pacific Partnership - all of which do, or could, offer benefits to the American people have been derided by Trump because he fails to understand the significance involved for American economic and national security.
