HTC U12 Plus may be launched on May 23

From what we can make of the image in the background, HTC has cleverly laid out the different components of the smartphone on a textured material. The device will be a successor the U11+ which was launched a year ago.

While we didn't receive much information as to the makeup of the phone itself, the tweet did mention that it was "a phone that is more than the sum of its specs".

HTC seems to have finally come out of the closet to announce a date for the launch of their next flagship smartphone, presumably the U12 Plus which we saw renders of in March. It is expected to run Android Oreo and sport a 6-inch Super WQHD LCD panel along with a "Frame less Display" design. The image he had shared showed the rumoured device with a rear dual camera setup aligned horizontally above the fingerprint scanner. This could mean that the standard HTC U12 houses a single front-facing camera, with the dual front-facing reserved for its higher-end handset.

In a tweet on Thursday, the phone maker confirmed what many had been anticipating, that a successor to last year's U11 was on the way. It will also likely be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC along with 6 GB RAM and arrive in 64 GB or 128 GB storage options.

The battery capacity of the device is said to be a 3420mAh unit, and it will be an IP68 certified smartphone. Considering it's 2018, we'll also probably see a dual camera setup on the back, while the same likely goes for the front as well if leaks are anything to go by.
