Despite draw, Barcelona was better than Celta, says Valverde

Suarez relieved to keep Barcelona run going

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde commented on Barcelona 2-2 La Liga draw at Celta Vigo.

Celta equalised through Jonny Castro right on the stroke of half time, but midway through the second half Valverde introduced Messi and Sergi Roberto and the effect was nearly immediate as Alcacer got a close range finish on an effort from Paulinho.

And that's because they extended their unbeaten La Liga run to 40 La Liga games - extending their new record - with an away point. It became the first team to stay unbeaten in 33 consecutive league games in the same season.

The draw left Barcelona 12 points in front of second-place Atletico Madrid, which visits mid-table Real Sociedad on Thursday. The Catalan club has a chance of clinching the title this weekend, depending on other results.

Many fans were livid when Yerry Mina did not start against AS Roma and it will be interesting to see how they react, with Vermaelen likely to get the nod ahead of the Colombian on Tuesday.

Barcelona can move within four points of claiming the league title with a win in Vigo, but Ernesto Valverde will surely be cautious, as the Spanish giants face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

Barcelona plays the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla on Saturday in Madrid.

"We have faced Celta three times already and it will be a tough game", said Valverde, whose side are looking to extend their LaLiga record unbeaten run of 39 games. The first half was especially open.

Paco Alcacer restored the visitors' advantage shortly after Lionel Messi's introduction from the bench with an hour played, but Iago Aspas - the Spain forward who was fouled by Roberto to prompt the substitute's premature departure - levelled with eight minutes remaining.

Barca's King's Cup final opponents Sevilla, who are seventh, were held to a 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened Deportivo earlier on Tuesday, while sixth-placed Villarreal beat Leganes 2-1 as they battle for a Europa League qualifying spot.
