The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is reviewing a sexual assault case against Kevin Spacey, Variety has confirmed.

The case was presented to prosecutors April 5 by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and is being considered by a task force established by the DA's office to review allegations of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry.

The DA's office recently declined to prosecute writer-director James Toback on five allegations of sexual assault because those cases fell outside the statute of limitations. "Star Trek: Discovery" actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making a sexual advance more than 30 years ago in his NY apartment when Spacey was 26.

Following Rapp's accusations, Kevin Spacey responded in a fashion that many found offensive-choosing then to publically come out as a gay man after years of silence about his sexuality.

Spacey is also under scrutiny for allegedly grabbing an 18-year-old man's genitals in a Nantucket, Massachusetts, bar in 2016. Rapp said it happened in 1986, when he was at Spacey's home for a party, and Spacey put him on his bed and climbed on top of him. Then, she said, Spacey stuck his hand down her son's trousers at the bar.

Spacey released a controversial statement after Rapp's account, saying he did not remember the encounter while simultaneously coming out.
