Now, they'll face the Cubs for a three-game series, beginning with the home opener at Wrigley Field Monday at 2:20 p.m.

"It's definitely important to me", Rizzo said of Monday's game against the Pirates at Wrigley Field. "I really wanna play [Monday] but at the same time, you gotta be smart".

"You've just got to keep working", Happ said. Chatwood was sharp in his Cubs debut, limiting the Reds to one run in six strong innings, however he received little run support and was charged with the loss.

Milwaukee put up zeroes on the scoreboard to bookend the series and never scored more than five runs in any game. Rizzo was to have been re-evaluated Tuesday morning before the Cubs determined it best to place him on the DL.

Players made the most of the snow delay on Monday, having a snowball on the field before heading back into the warmth of the clubhouse.

"That's why I don't like BP every day".

Manager Joe Maddon was not "overly" concerned about Rizzo's health, as similar issues have flared up in past years and gone away quickly.

"Well, he's from SC", manager Joe Maddon said of Edwards.

Before the season, Maddon planned to give Rizzo more rest to ensure his health because of past minor back stiffness. Bats get cold, the pitching isn't throwing the ball the way we want to throw it. That's been part of the landscape. "So I thought [cancelling the game] was the right thing to do". Like all these guys, I think some of the injuries that they eventually grow into is just by repetitive motion or process that's not necessary. "That's just the way it works", Morrow said.

"Air temp we can live with", Ricketts said before the game was postponed. It's repetitive. It's a long year.

Rizzo actually has a good feel for that Maddon philosophy, but it appears that this could be something he will have to manage throughout the season. He said he's going to try to build a snowman with his daughter.
