Sony Delaying Fortnite Cross-play

Gears of War 4 Crossplay

Fortnite is getting cross-play between PlayStation 4, Mac, PC and mobile, but unfortunately, Microsoft's Xbox One is left out of the fun when it comes to Sony's console.

As icing on the cake, Epic also announced that all of these platforms will feature cross-play. The same goes for Cross Play and Cross Progression with the Xbox One as well.

In a follow-up statement sent to Kotaku, Microsoft firmly placed the ball in Sony's court, reiterating its desire to work with the company to make cross-play happen.

In an email to Kotaku, a Microsoft representative stated, "Microsoft has always been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles". If I'm playing it on PC, and you're on PlayStation 4, or your phone, we can play together. Though it can be assumed that PC players might have the most advantage since their gaming machines can run the game at better frame rates and resolutions and there is also the fact that they use the standard mice and keyboards that are still vastly superior to analog controllers or smartphone screens for aiming and precision.

Then in 2017, Microsoft announced that cross-platform support for Minecraft would be available for the Xbox One, Switch, and mobile, but PS4 was absent from the list. But considering how popular Fortnite has become, it could prove to be a problem for the company as gamers increasingly look for that cross-play option. Players on Xbox One will be able to compete against other gamers on PC, Mac as well as mobile, but not with PS4 users, and vice versa.

The signup program for the iOS version of Epic's "Fortnite: Battle Royale" has begun. Kotaku has attempted to reach Epic and Sony for comments, but neither has reportedly responded. Now, Epic is the first to bring its game to mobile within the same generation as it was released and while it's still running on other platforms.

"Mobile players are matched against mobile players only, Epic Games adds".

While a version of Fortnite: Battle Royale has been announced for mobile devices, it is not now available. Further, they assured that everything would be the same from gameplay to content and weekly updates.
