Frank de Boer's brother responds after Jose Mourinho's Rashford dig

Frank de Boer believes that Jose Mourinho is the wrong manager for Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford.

Furthermore, the signing of Romelu Lukaku has seen the Englishman deployed as a winger on numerous occasions, and De Boer does not believe Mourinho has the patience to allow Rashford the necessary room to develop.

De Boer had praised Rashford after his impact in Saturday's win over Liverpool and said it is a "pity" the 20-year-old plays under Mourinho at Old Trafford - prompting an angry response from the United boss.

Rashford scored two brilliantly-taken goals and has surely put himself in contention to start against Sevilla in the Champions League.

"When you are younger than I am, and you are learning the game, I think you do need it. Rashford is an English player and you want to give him time and he may make mistakes, but Mourinho is not like that, he wants results", Frank de Boer said.

During Mourinho's press conference for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash against Sevilla, the Manchester United boss was asked if Marcus Rashford had done enough in the 2-1 win over Liverpool to retain his spot in the team.

De Boer lost all four of his Premier League games without scoring a goal before he was sacked by Palace in September.

"If he was coached by Frank he would lose because he lost every game".

The La Liga club held Liverpool 2-2 at Anfield in the groups before coming from behind to draw 3-3 at home, and are more than capable of getting the away goal that could prove fatal to United's progress.

"Right now, I'm probably not learning the most on the pitch", said the two-goal hero. "I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that were responsible for his formation, to Mr. [Louis] Van Gaal, who was responsible for his first season".

Speaking to reporters ahead of the second-leg against Sevilla, the Portuguese coach suggested the 20-year-old is "in the top five players with most matches" since he took charge in 2016. "The best thing that can happen to a kid is experience and Marcus is having this". "In the last eight you start smelling the semi-finals". Mourinho said he did not know whether the midfielder would be available but Pogba had trained after the open part of Monday's session closed. "There comes a time, whether you like it or you don't like it, that your body tells you it is time to stop playing football", he said.

Carrick is set to join United's coaching staff in the summer.
