Unai Emery 'believes' in PSG, acknowledges changes may be made

Under coach Unai Emery PSG’s grand project was bound to fail

"PSG is a sound project".

The absence of Neymar with a broken foot bone hampered the Parisians in the second leg as they went down 2-1 at the Parc des Princes and lost 5-2 on aggregate.

A scripted success against modest Metz will hardly lessen the gloom at PSG, but anything other than three points will cast further doubt on the direction of the club since Qatar Sports Investment bought them in 2011. "The people within that project could change, but the project itself is sound".

"The most important thing is the analysis that we can carry out within the club about what happened, and what we can change to make progress", Emery said. "But today, I work as if I would stay here all my life".

Between 2013-16, PSG were solid quarterfinalists - not a bad start when you consider that their 2012-13 foray into Europe was their first at the top table for almost 10 years - but since their elimination to the pre-Pep Guardiola-era Manchester City, Les Parisiens have been taking steps backwards on the pitch, despite creating the illusion that they are moving forward off it.

Emery, though, is not looking for scapegoats.

He said: "My desire, my enthusiasm, is football, I am very motivated for the game tomorrow".

Emery revealed that Draxler has spoken with sporting director Antero Henrique and team coordinator Maxwell and stated his belief that the Germany worldwide was "misinterpreted" in the heat of the moment.

"These players are young and things that they say can be misinterpreted".

"Falcao will start, but he's not at his best level yet", cautioned Monaco coach Leonardo Jardi before the match. "Tomorrow, we will have a good match, also for our supporters".

"The players are aware of it and with enthusiasm we can regain confidence". We need to grow as a team. "Little by little, we will forget going out to Real".
