Secretary Tillerson Applauds African Union On Fight Against Corruption

Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn in Addis Ababa today, his first stop on his first visit to Africa as U.S. Secretary of State.

Chad, Kenya and Nigeria are all battling Islamic extremism, with help from the USA, while Djibouti hosts the only permanent U.S. military base on the continent.

For a country that has wielded the big brother stick, the visit by Trump's Secretary of State Rex Tillerson could not have come at a better time for the super power.

During his trip, he will also meet with U.S. Embassy personnel and participate in events related to U.S. government-supported activities.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Monday that Russia had proposed holding a meeting between the two top diplomats, after which US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert suggested that Washington had not received the request.

Mahamat, on Tillerson's remarks about China's roles in Africa, said the African continent had many partnerships.

"I believe that this incident is of the past", Faki said.

He said that the "incident is of the past" and that the Africa-US relation was cordial. "It is useful for both parties, whether in the area of trade or investment, or whether it is peace and stability in Africa". However, it is important that African countries carefully consider the terms of those investments.

The US Secretary of State appreciated the cooperation between his country and Kenya on security in Somalia and South Sudan.

Making matters worse, Meservey said there's increasing evidence China may be targeting financially-unsteady African countries in a cynical play to attain strategic assets through defaults.

Tillerson, the top US diplomat, called Kenya a "leading democracy in Africa" and praised President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga for meeting on Friday and pledging to bring their people together after last year's contentious and bloody elections.

"We sent proposals to the Americans and they said they will think about that but later". According to him, Africans are mature enough to engage in partnerships of their own volition which will be useful for the countries and the continent.

Tillerson is due to fly to Djibouti, host to military bases owned by the U.S., China, Japan, France, and Italy.

The provisional security problem being observed in some parts of the country are resulted from more demands by the society due to the economic growth, he said, adding the solution for the problem is the ongoing comprehensive reform.
