Quinn says Scotland test will be a huge one for Ireland

Momentum Gregor Townsend feels Scots can improve

Tadhg Furlong and Garry Ringrose have been drafted into Ireland's Six Nations team to face Scotland on Saturday.

Other alterations from victory over Wales a fortnight ago see Garry Ringrose replace the injured Chris Farrell.

Meanwhile Scotland have made just a single change from their win over England.

Furlong returns after missing Ireland's win over Wales due to a hamstring injury, while Ringrose is back after recovering from ankle surgery for what will be his first Test since facing Japan last summer.

Ringrose inherits what's been a cursed No 13 shirt this spring, benefitting from Farrell's desperately unlucky cruciate injury blow and Robbie Henshaw's shoulder injury. The big, burly Munster centre sustained a knee injury during training recently.

Schmidt conceded that the 23-year-old's selection was "needs-must" given the team's injury problems, with Jared Payne still unavailable because of persistent headaches. The former England hooker has since revised that view and while more conservative options were available to Scotland's head coach, Townsend expressed confidence in the way the youngster has developed in the course of this season, saying he believes he has learned the error of his ways as a rugby player.

"I think the three of them have done very well for us in the championship so far and it was probably just a case of trying to keep a bit of continuity", Schmidt said, referring to competition between Henderson, Toner and 21-year-old James Ryan.

"Garry's been extraordinary when he has played for us".

He takes his place on the bench whilst flanker Jordi Murphy gets his first call-up of the tournament in place of Jack Conan, and young tyro Jordan Larmour - who came on to make his Test debut against Italy - regains his place at the expense of his more experienced Leinster team-mate Fergus McFadden.

There will be live TV coverage of Saturday's game on TV3.
