The January 2018 Nintendo Direct Mini Highlights

Dark Souls Remastered

After some hype over the last few days, Nintendo dropped a Nintendo Direct Mini today and it came with a plethora of announcements.

The Nintendo Switch has been named America's fastest-selling home games console.

Ports of two Wii U games have been announced - Hyrule Warriors and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It's a living, breathing world that players will explode using motion controls of the Joy-Con's in order to sing the song of the forest, its inhabitants, and the plants within as they unlock new abilities. Wave 1 will have Aegislash and support pokemonRayquaza and Mimikyu. Wave 2 includes the new Battle Pokémon Blastoise and a new Support Pokémon Set featuring Mew and Celebi.

Accessing the new DLC characters for "Pokken Tournament DX" will require the purchase of the Deluxe Battle Pack, which is available now. Another flagship character will land on Switch later this year, with Kirby Star Allies due to launch on March 16th. Co-op friends can also combine their abilities to produce new effects. There is also a free demo for Forma.8 in the Eshop right now.

Nintendo Switch is getting Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. According to Nintendo, the story mode offers "a new flavor of tennis gameplay with a variety of missions, boss battles, and more". It'll be joined later this year by ports of Dark Souls and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana.

And yet, Nintendo fans came away from the event encouraged about the future of the Switch.

Players will be able to continue Mario's epic new world's adventure after the end of Super Mario Odyssey with the help if Luigi. It's competitive search and find with balloons, complete with online leaderboards. The sport title will be released this spring and promises to be a multiplayer go-to game, but with a single-player story mode too. This update will be released in February. SNK HEROINES ~Tag Team Frenzy~ will let you fight with SNK's iconic heroines in two-on-two tag team matches. Juggling more than one character isn't an easy task for most, and allowing different methods to achieve this balance makes the game more approachable for everyone. It'll be coming to the Switch in the summer.

Most surprising of all, Nintendo seems to understand how to release DLC without making anyone angry. Donkey Kong is a Wii U classic, to which Nintendo has added a new character Funky Kong as well as a beginner-friendly mode. Payday 2 will be launching on the 27th of February. The platformer Celeste will release on January 25, and another platformer, Fe, will launch on February 16.
