Apple is replacing your dying iPhone battery super cheap

"With reference to the Battery Replacement Program, Apple have informed us that any customer owning an iPhone 6 and/or later that is out of warranty and wishes to replace the battery (whether faulty or not) can do so by visiting our iCentre Service Centre in Joe Gasan Street, Pieta".

Barron's picked up on a note from Mark Moskowitz of Barclays projecting a "significant" draw from iPhone sales in favor of subsidized battery replacements at $29 apiece starting immedately. Last month, Apple admitted its software updates (for iPhones 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7, and 7 Plus) have intentionally been slowing down many iPhones-all the while insisting this was done for the sole goal of preserving battery life.

The estimated $1.56 billion in revenue from battery replacement as iPhone owners (whether they would have upgraded or not) rush to take advantage of Apple's offer would help offset the lost iPhone sales.

According to the complaint, on December 20, 2017, defendant allegedly admitted to purposefully slowing down the operating speed of older iPhone models. There are also reports that suggest customers who previously paid $79 to have their battery replaced can receive a refund from Apple upon request.

In a blog post, Procon-SP informed that a notice had been sent to Apple seeking more information on the replacement of the batteries and the models eligible for replacement.

Apple is now thought to be facing at least 11 lawsuits over the matter, one of which (in France), holds the potential of criminal charges. With Apple's discounted $29 battery-replacement program, however, I'd get it replaced even at 90% capacity.

For the iPhone 6, 6S, and SE, Apple's performance-throttling feature was introduced in iOS 10.2.1.

As we closed out 2017, Apple customers with older iPhones got confirmation that they weren't going insane. Other rumours from various sources say that Apple might be retaining the 4-inch form factor of the current model but will borrow the internals for the new model from the iPhone 7, particularly the A10 Fusion SoC. Depending on model mix, Barclays estimates that represents roughly $10 billion in lost revenue.

Barclays Capital released an analyst note yesterday that predicts the cost will be 16 million iPhone sales in 2018.

It should be remembered that the iPhone is Apple's principle cash cow. Apple is now facing multiple lawsuits in response to the intentional performance throttling. At first, testing proved that the performance was not being throttled, but it missed a key factor: battery age.

To get a battery replacement, you can go to an Apple Store or an authorized Apple service center or send your iPhone in by mail. "Maybe this will serve as a positive lesson to Apple about the value of openness and transparency - things it has long lacked".
