Police arrests four Kashmiri cricketers for respecting Pakistani national anthem

Several Kashmiri cricketers were reportedly detained a year ago in Ganderbal district after a video clip surfaced in social media showing them wearing the Pakistani team's jersey with the neighbouring country's national anthem playing in the background.

The 1.45-minute video showed one team in green jerseys like the Pakistani cricket team. In the video, players have also bowed their heads while singing Pakistan's national anthem. In the video, two teams of cricketers are seen lined up against each other, apparently in Bandipora district.

Four cricketers have been arrested in Kashmir have been arrested for allegedly participating in a pre-match ceremony where Pakistan's national anthem was played. "There was a local cricket tournament going on at Arin and it was the final match of the tournament", said a source.

The video which was shared on January 3 has taken the internet by storm, following which the local police started investigating the case. The teams involved were MCC, Gondipora and Dardpora Cricket Club. "Jammu and Kashmir is India and only Indian anthem will be played here and Indian tricolour unfurled", said BJP legislator Ravinder Raina.

Zulfiqar Azad, SSP Bandipora told Kashmir Wire "We have made arrests in this regard and have counseled the village elders". The arrests came in after a video showing them in Pakistan team's jersey with Pakistan's national anthem playing in the background, went viral on the social media. The local police immediately swung into action and registered a case against the two teams under section 13 of RPC.
