Chelsea retaining title 'impossible' after West Ham defeat - Conte

Antonio Conte accepted that retaining the Premier League title is "impossible" after West Ham inflicted Chelsea's fourth defeat in 16 matches this season.

"To talk about the title race after a defeat is a bit odd, especially if this is the fourth defeat of the season in 16 games", Conte said. We started with a defeat in our home game against Burnley.

"If we play to our levels today, we get something out of the game without a shadow of a doubt but we didn't so we didn't get anything".

"But then you lose against Crystal Palace at the bottom and now to lose again against West Ham who at this moment are in a bad position in the table, you can't lose points in these games".

'If you want to stay in the title race you need consistency in results and this is not our case this season.

For Conte, there was no doubt about what Chelsea's problems were, ruing their wastefulness after starting "badly".

Moyes has steadied the West Ham ship and while they are still in the bottom three, last week's narrow defeat at Manchester City and victory over Chelsea offers renewed hope.

"Today many players were exhausted", he said. It's normal when you play every three days.

"It's frustrating in terms of wasting a bit of time, which was clever play from them, but we weren't at the races today for whatever reason".

"We tried to get back into the game but that laboured start carried on throughout the game".

"Our ideas were not so clear and I think above all in the last pass, the final pass we made a lot of mistakes".

"We have people who can create and score goals so if we can get the back end sorted we might give ourselves a chance of earning some points".

'We will try to do our best this season but if you remember I said it would be very, very tough.
