Overwatch's holiday event returns next week with new Mei-focused mode

Overwatch Winter Wonderland

It's that magical time of year when video games start cashing in with the digital snow, and Overwatch is absolutely no exception.

Overwatch's festively themed Winter Wonderland event will return next week, Tuesday December 12th, Blizzard has announced.

We'll keep you posted about skins and more. There will be plenty of new skins too, and Kaplan specifically hints at skins for Hanzo, Junkrat, and Roadhog. King's Row and Hanamura you might remember from previous updates while Black Forest is completely new.

On top of the returning skins, last year's Winter Wonderland game mode, Mei's Snowball Fight, will also be making another appearance. However, the Black Forest map will also be decked up for the holiday season as well.

While Winter Wonderland is a revival of last year's event, Blizzard is bringing some major new additions. Essentially, it boils down to 5 Mei players taking on resident big lad Winston, who also happens to be player controlled. Set on the Nepal map, Mei's Yeti Hunt does still focus on characters shooting each other - but there's a twist. Once Winston has enough meat, his Primal Rage ultimate will activate, sending him into a monstrous fury. Mei has a new ability that's specific to this mode, Ice Trap, and she can use it along with her usual Ice Wall to fend off the yeti.

"I know a lot of you are thinking it sounds kind of silly and kind of ridiculous", said Kaplan of Mei's Yeti Hunt.

Winter Wonderland will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 when it launches next Tuesday, and the full line-up of 2017 seasonal skins will likely be revealed soon.
