Apple unveils best Apps, Music, Movies, and TV Shows for 2017

Drake, Moana Top Apple Charts in 2017

Super Mario Run has been named the most popular free game of the year on Apple's App Store.

Apple's editors also announced their picks for the best apps of the year.

Rather interestingly, the game of the year choices for iPhone and iPad are not freemium titles.

We're also seeing some more familiar faces in the top TV shows category, with Games of Thrones and The Walking Dead topping the list, followed closely by The Big Bang Theory and Rick & Morty.

The Splitter Critters game - developed by Vancouver-based RAC7 Games - offers users the ability to split the world with a swipe of your finger and then rearrange it to guide critters back to their spaceship. In line with their observation, even on Google, the most popular app in 2016 and 2017, has been a photo editing app, focused on selfies.

WhatsApp Messenger was also revealed as the most downloaded free app by iPhone users, ahead of Snapchat and Instagram.

Fresh Air continues to dominate the iTunes' podcast chart, but 2017 has also seen a rise in daily news podcasts, with podcasts like The New York Times's The Daily and Up First from NPR jumping into the most downloaded list. The $2.99 game features a new augmented-reality mode.

Moana was the top movie of the year, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Wonder Woman, Apple said.

To begin with, on Apple Music, Drake topped album of the year with More Life, while Ed Sheeran's Shape of You got top song honors. Taylor Swift's latest album, Reputation, has already reached the third spot on the 2017 USA top album charts despite having just launched on November 10. Unsurprisingly, Super Mario Run leads Apple's list of U.S. best-selling mobile games after prevailing in Google's contest for the most downloaded new Android game of the year too.

If you want to see the full lists, just load up iTunes or the App Store and you'll see it all on the front page.
