3 dead in New Mexico high-school shooting

Sheriff: Deputies called to shooting at high school in Aztec

Authorities said that three people were killed, including the shooter, following a shooting at a New Mexico high school. New Mexico Police said via Twitter the shooter was among the the deceased.

The families of the victims have been notified and none of the dead have yet been identified, the Farmington Daily Times reported.

At least one shooter is also down.

There were no other injuries reported, state police said.

Aztec High School is a public high school in Aztec, New Mexico. "We pray for the survivors, and are grateful to the fearless first responders for their heroic actions on the scene".

Authorities say Aztec High School was locked down and officers responded in less than a minute Thursday. Aztec Mayor Sally Burbridge says there's no additional threat to the community, CNN reports.

The sheriff's office urged people to avoid the area and confirmed the school was evacauted.

"Parents can stage at 516 and Mesa Verde near the church to pick up their kids".

"We all know each other in San Juan County", she added.

Aztec High School is in the Four Corners region and is near the Navajo Nation, an expansive native American territory.
