"Data Saver" feature in Chrome browser saves the user more than 600MB of data per year. With Google Assistant for Android (Go edition), Google said people will be able to quickly send messages, make calls or set alarms, with their voice and a single touch of the screen. The two-wheeler mode uses machine learning to suggest more relevant routes for riders, using smaller roads and two-wheeler-friendly shortcuts. Google has started pushing the new mobile operating system to Nexus and Pixel devices, and expects to complete the rollout over the next week.

The two-wheeler mode will arrive in more countries later, Google said.

At the Google for India event, Caesar Sengupta, VP of Product Management announced the launch of bill payments on Google Tez.

And don't worry: The Go Edition sports numerous signature features of its parent, Android Oreo, including Google Play Protect, which scans app downloads for malware. For instance, the Google apps running on the Go Edition take up 50 percent less space.

All of these features are great for users who have cheap devices with meager internal specs.

Android Go is now available for manufacuturers, alongside the new version of Android 8.1 Oreo, and it will be shipped on various entry-level devices within the coming months. Google Go, a new app to find information, optimises data by up to 40 percent, weighs less than 5MB in size, and has a simple, tappable interface. Google Go is available as a preview starting today on the Google Play Store in India. "The average "Files Go" user is saving 1GB of space so they can do more on their phone".

Google, which has increased its focus on the Indian market in recent years with initiatives including providing free wifi services at railway stations, is competing with the likes of Facebook and its WhatsApp messenger services for the attention of hundreds of millions of new internet users. This special version of the Google Assistant in both English and Hindi will appear on the new Reliance JioPhones. "It was built for Android Go devices, but we're also making it available on the Google Play Store", the company said. Since entry-level phones are less likely to have room to spare, the less space the OS takes, the more people have for their pictures and videos.

The company will also gradually roll out a suite of its popular "lightweight" apps that will include Google Go, Google Maps Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go, Google Assistant Go, Files Go, Gboard, Chrome and Google Play Store.
