Georgia officials have not yet commented on Patrick's arrest.

This does not bode well for his future as this is Patrick's second time being arrested and the third arrest of his college career., with both of those arrests being for marijuana possession in 2015.

Smith said Patrick paid a "small fine" and has since been released.

Authorities said Patrick was a passenger in a auto pulled over late Saturday that was driven by Georgia backup wide receiver Jayson Stanley, who was charged with speeding and possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana.

Patrick started and helped Georgia win Saturday's SEC championship game against Auburn in Atlanta.

Georgia Athletic Association policies mandate that student-athletes be dismissed from the team following a third drug-related incident. With AP Photos.Georgia linebacker Natrez Patrick has been arrested on misdemeanor marijuana charge hours after starting in the Bulldogs' Southeastern Conference championship game win over Auburn.
