Meet Micromax Bharat 5, the Rs 5555 Competitor to Xiaomi Redmi 5A

If the latest report is anything to go by, Indian fans will get Rs 1,000 cashback on purchasing the "Desh ka Smartphone" touted as the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. Micromax Bharat 5 is available at offline retail stores across the country.

Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India Managing Director, said that there is a Jio cashback offer, especially for the Redmi 5A. The smartphone has a premium feel to it and, unlike the Bharat 5, does not feel bulky.

It's unfair to judge a phone's camera by its megapixels, but the on-paper specs surely seem fairly better in the Redmi 5A than on the Bharat 5. While the price of Redmi 5A is already quite lucrative, additional discount on Redmi 5A makes the effective price of Redmi 5A makes it available for people to grab at just Rs 3,999. In terms of design, the Micromax Bharat 5 comes with an all-plastic back and prominent bezels at the front.

Xiaomi has partnered with Reliance Jio to give its customers the most out of Redmi 5A. You can use microSD cards of up to 64GB to expand the storage. Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch fully-laminated HD display.

On the specifications front, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A is equipped with a 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 425 processor, 13MP rear camera, 5M front camera loaded with MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. At this price point, keeping only a single gig of RAM is disappointing. The storage of Redmi 5A is further expandable by up to 128GB via a micro-SD card slot.

The Bharat-series has been about offering basic hardware at an entry-level price tag. After the first 50 lakh units get sold, the company has mentioned to sell it for Rs 5,999.

Coming to the battery, the Bharat 5 comes with a massive 5000mAh battery while the Nokia 2 which boasts of a "two-day" owing to its large 4,100mAh pack under the hood. Since this is a quick review, we couldn't test out the battery life, so you will have to wait for our in-depth review on that. Recently, the company also launched its entry level smartphone Bharat 1 in partnership with BSNL.
