Bette Midler Resurfaces 1991 Interview Claiming Geraldo Rivera Groped Her

In a statement, Fox News spokeswoman Carly Shanahan said: "Geraldo's tweets do not reflect the views of Fox News or its management".

Fox News' Geraldo Rivera says he remembers his encounter with Bette Midler "differently" than she does - Broadway's Hello Dolly star tweeted yesterday that he groped her back in the 1970s - but is apologizing for "in the very least", embarrassing her "all those years ago".

Since the interview gained media attention, Midler, now 71, took to Twitter to share the clip with her followers on November 30, writing, "Tomorrow is my birthday".

In the 26-year-old interview, Midler told Walters, "I did not offer myself up on the altar of Geraldo Rivera".

Following Matt Lauer's dismissal from NBC due to sexual misconduct, Geraldo Rivera made a decision to offer, on Twitter, his own standard for whether or not sexual assault cases should be pursued.

However, Twitter users believe Rivera's apology to Midler was not honest.

Prior to saying sorry to Midler, Rivera also apologized to those who were highlighted in his 1991 book, Exposing Myself, claiming the book was "tawdry".

In response to NBC firing Today show host Matt Lauer, who faces multiple sexual harassment accusations against him, one fellow TV personality came out to protect Lauer's honor - if only briefly.

She said in the video that Rivera and a producer pushed her into a bathroom and drugged and groped her.

In a tweet, she called Rivera out for not apologizing for the time he allegedly assaulted her over four decades ago.

After news broke that the former Today host had been fired after the company received "a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer", Rivera took to Twitter to publicly praise the morning-show host.

Bette Midler gave herself an early birthday present Thursday - a big slice of revenge against Geraldo Rivera. We were troubled by his comments and are addressing them with him, ' the company said.

"He and his producer left his crew in the other room, they pushed me into my bathroom".

Geraldo Rivera participates in a "Celebrity Apprentice" panel in Pasadena, Calif., on January 16, 2015. "Often, victims are too frightened to come forward in a timely fashion - I humbly apologize".
